Lindsborg, Kan. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swedes hosted the Tabor College Bluejays in a weekday double header, Wednesday, March 20th. The Swedes split with the Bluejays, Game 1 went to Tabor, 1-2, and Game 2 went to Bethany, 1-0.
Game 1:
Bethany and Tabor, evenly matched, proved to be an exciting and nail biting matchup going into extra innings in Game 1 with only three combined runs throughout. The Swedes were the first on the board after a triple by Lilliana Martinez to put herself in scoring position followed by Maggie Heath and a single to left field to bring home Lilliana Martinez, 1-0. Things would go silent until the Bluejays came back and tied it up at 1-1 in the top of the 6th inning. This would lead the game to go into extra innings. No runs scored in the 8th but Tabor managed to score in the top of the 9th inning, 1-2. Bethany tried to come back with Caitlyn Myers, pinch running for Katherine Range, in scoring position. Unfortunately, the Bluejays would keep that from happening, and finished Game 1, 1-2.
Dylann Baker in the circle for Bethany for Game 1 and faced 37 batters and threw 102 strikes out of 132 pitches.
Game 2:
Similar to Game 1, Game 2 would prove to be a slower paced game with both teams relying their teammates to make plays and prevent runs. The only run of the game came from a sacrifice fly by Allison Rosa to right field which allowed Katherine Range to score in the bottom of the third inning. Final score was 1-0 in favor of the Swedes
Lilliana Martinez on the mound for Game 2 who threw a no-run shutout. She faced 26 batters and threw 81 strikes out of 111 pitches.
