It’s “Elite Eights” time in nine classes.
Two Reno County football teams are still competing in the Elite Eights: Hutchinson Central Christian in Eight-Man II and Hutchinson Trinity Catholic in Kansas Class 1A.
The Hutchinson Central Christian Cougars (10-0) will host the Victoria Knights (9-0) Friday night.
Central Christian, coached by Matt Barnett, defeated the Logan Palco Trojans 56-0 last week.
The game was decided on the 45-point rule before halftime.
CCHS has allowed just 28 points in 10 games. The Cougars have 23 interceptions and three Pick-6’s (interceptions for touchdowns).
The Knights, coached by Doug Oberle, posted a 64-14 win over Dighton last week. Victoria has five shutouts in nine games.
The Central Christian-Victoria will play the Wallace County-Hodgeman County quarterfinal winner in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 21.
The Eight-Man II semifinal winners will play for the state title Saturday, Nov. 29, at Greensburg-Kiowa County High School Stadium.
The Hutchinson Trinity Celtics (8-2) will travel to Sterling to take on the Black Bears for the second time. Sterling defeated the Celtics 34-12 Oct. 24 at home.
Hutchinson Trinity stayed alive with a 43-14 1A playoff win over Republic County last week. The Celtics are coached by Jordan Bell and led on the field by quarterback Drew Decant.
The Sterling Black Bears, guided by head coach Brent Schneider, blasted Marion 53-14 last week to claim a 1A regional championship and move to 10-0.
The Sterling-Trinity winner will play the Smith Center-Moundridge winner in the Class 1A semifinals on Friday, Nov. 21. The 1A semifinal winners will play for the state championship Friday, Nov. 28, at Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson.
Little River hosts Sylvan-Lucas with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
Little River handled Lyndon 52-20 to advance as regional champions. The Redskins, led by HC Kevin Ayers, improve to 9-1.
Little River’s only loss was against Ell-Saline, who also remains alive in the Eight-Man bracket.
If Little River and Ell-Saline win their quarterfinal games, they will meet again in the Eight-Man I semifinals on Friday. Nov. 21.
The Eight-Man I semifinal winners will play for the state title Saturday, Nov. 29, at Greensburg-Kiowa County High School Stadium.
