GARDEN CITY, Kan. (BartonSports.com) – Five three-pointers and eight turnovers dealt the Barton Community College women’s basketball team a thirteen point opening frame deficit Saturday afternoon in going on to lose 83-58 at Garden City Community College.
Following the opening quarter, Barton played Garden City even in the second and third frames but a final frame eleven point deficit added to the final margin in snapping the Cougars’ four game win streak of the series.
Dropping to 0-2 in conference and 4-4 overall, Barton has a short turnaround with another road trip on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. tip at Cloud County Community College. Following the holiday break, the Cougars return home Saturday, November 30, for a 5:30 p.m. start hosting Cowley College. Garden City bounces back from a home loss previously to even their mark at 1-1 and 4-3 on the season.
Barton shot well overall at 53.3% but faced a twenty-three point differential stemming from their 27 turnovers and Garden City’s 9-of-18 three-point shooting.
Vivian Onugha posted her 5th double-double of the season leading Barton with 19 points and 14 rebounds, to go along with, a pair of assists and two steals.
Regina Donanu‘s second consecutive game in double figures ended at 14 points with 3 assists as Brittany Simpson‘s 2-of-4 triples led to a 10 point afternoon.
Just six Broncbusters scored in the contest but four reached double figures being led by Antonicia Moultrie’s 24 points.
Combining for 9-of-17 long range shooting and forty points, Jolie Mantz drained five long balls for 21 points with Bruna Costa Da Silva’s four treys leading to a 19 point outing. Sierra Driessen rounded out the big scoring with a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double effort.
