The high-powered Hutchinson Community College baseball team’s offense was held in check on Tuesday at Hobart-Detter Field in a midweek loss to the Cowley Tigers at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Blue Dragons were held to a season-low-tying six hits as the Tigers took advantage of four early Hutchinson errors in an 11-3 loss in a non-conference midweek matchup.

The 12th-ranked Blue Dragons are now 29-6 heading into a big four-game weekend series with No. 4 Cloud County. Games 1 and 2 will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in Concordia. The Blue Dragons host Games 3 and 4 beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.

Designated hitter Mason Wisnieski and center fielder Max Flowers led the Blue Dragons with two hits each.

Wisnieski went 2 for 4 with a double, driving in a run and scoring a run. Flowers was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Sophomore Eli Duncan had an RBI double to extend his hitting streak to 20 games. Duncan is now tied with Cooper Langley (2013) for the third-longest hitting streak in team history. Anthony Mazza, who is riding a 23-game hitting streak, did not play against the Tigers on Tuesday.

Cowley’s first three runs of the game were all unearned against starting pitcher Kolby Heskett.

The Tigers took command with eight combined runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Cowley had 12 total hits and the Dragons mixed in four defensive errors and seven walks.

Trailing 3-0, Duncan got the Blue Dragons on the board with an RBI double to left-center to score Jackson Schanuel in the bottom of the fourth. Duncan then scored on an RBI single by Wisnieski to cut the Dragon deficit to 3-2.

Cowley scored eight unanswered to take an 11-2 lead into the seventh. A Flowers sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh scored Wisnieski to cut the Cowley lead to 11-3.
