The Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team shot better than 60 percent for the first time in two seasons and rolled to its 18th-straight victory in a home opener on Tuesday night.

Five Blue Dragons scored in double figures as Hutchinson defeated the Metropolitan Wolves 102-73 in the 2025-26 home opener at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons (3-0) are now 83-12 in home openers. Hutchinson stays at home this weekend for the BSN Sports Tipoff Classic this weekend. The Dragons play Southwestern Christian on Friday and Lamar on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Blue Dragons shot 61.7 percent (37 of 60) for the game, which is the seventh-highest single-game shot percentage in program history. The Dragons were 9 of 23 from 3-point range and 29 of 28 at the foul line. The Dragons scored 30 fast-break points and 50 points in the paint.

Eleven different players scored for Hutchinson, including five in double figures. Sophomores Kyrell Shaw and Bobby Cannon had 18 points each to lead the Blue Dragons.

Shaw was 6 of 12 from the floor with one 3-pointer. He added five assists and two steals. Cannon, who earlier Wednesday was named the KJCCC Player of the Week, had 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting with one 3-pointer.He had six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Freshman Chudier Dorar was 6 of 7 shooting and finished with a season-high 15 points and five rebounds. Dorar matched a season high with six blocked shots. Jonathan Ogunfuye hit a pair of 3-pointers and closed with 13 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Asher Boney had 10 points and four rebounds.

Sophomore Lolo Rudolph had nine points and a career-high nine assists. Rudolph helped the Dragons rack up a team season-high 29 assists.

Metropolitan (1-1) shot 35.3 percent (24 of 68), going 4 of 16 from long range and 21 of 30 from the foul line. The Wolves out-rebounded Hutchinson 39-38 and had 19 offensive rebounds.

Devonte Watson had 24 points, taking 29 shots, to lead the Wolves.

Leading 14-9 with 14:11 to play in the first half, the Blue Dragons opened the game up with an 11-0 run over the next 4:07 to build a 25-9 lead.

The Blue Dragons shot 61.7 percent (18 of 28) in the first half to open a 45-35 lead at halftime. The Dragons had their second 50-point half of the season, scoring a season-high 57 points in the second half.

The Dragons reached the 100-point mark for the first time in the Kyle Fisher era when Gabe Pyle hit a 3-pointer with 2:22 remaining in the game.
