Haven High School’s Devin Boice placed third in singles and the Haven High School boys tennis team placed sixth at the Smoky Valley Ron Dahlsten Tennis Classic Tuesday in Lindsborg.
Hesston won the tournament title with 53 points, followed by Smoky Valley 39, Wichita Collegiate 34, Clay Center 25, Abilene 18, Haven 15, Hesston X 8, Pratt 4, Smoky Valley X 2 and Concordia 1.
Boice defeated Concordia’s Noah Wood 8-1 in the first round and Hesston’s Jammejay Patwardham 8-4 in the second round. Boice lost to Hesston’s Braden Liechty 8-4 in the semifinals and defeated Clay Center’s Eli Pfizenmaier 8-2 in the third-place match.
Haven’s Andrew Avena placed 14th in singles. He lost to Eli Pfizenmaier 8-0 in the first round, Abilene’s Christian Garcia 8-0 in his first consolation match and lost to Concordia’s Keltyn Newton 8-4 in the 13th-place match.
In doubles, Haven’s Ben Nisly and Hadley Collins placed 12th.
Nisly and Collins lost to Clay Center’s Tarn Pfizenmaier and Caden Peterson 8-2 in the first round, defeated Concordia’a Ayden Putsch and Creighton Nelson 8-5 in their first consolation match, lost to Abilene’s Cael Casteel and Zane Issitt 8-0 in the consolation semifinals and lost 8-6 to Tarin Pfizenmaier and Peterson of Clay Center in the 11th-place match.
