SALINA, Kan. (SCWarriors.com) – For sixty-five minutes of play, Marcelo Fuentes nearly single-handedly kept the Warriors in the match against Kansas Wesleyan University. Sterling found themselves down 1-0 at halftime after a late goal gave the second place Yotes the lead. Fuentes and the Warrior defense continued to fight hard, but a goal in the 65′ appeared to be the big blow that knocked the wind out of the Warriors. Sterling was outshot in the match despite moving the ball to the attacking third of the field often. They were not able to find the back of the net, although, one of the KCAC’s top newcomers, Laum Sangzuala, hit the crossbar on a free ball that would have gotten the Warriors on the board. In the end, Sterling fell to the Yotes 5-0.
Fuentes had a busy night with 10 saves, many of which were direct shots that he was able to make acrobatic touches on the ball to keep them out of the net. Very few were at his chest.
Sterling travels to Southwestern College on Saturday to take on the Moundbuilders at 8 pm.
