MANHATTAN, Kan. – Derby, Kan. and Derby High School Wildcat upcoming senior Defensive Back Martel Jackson announced his commitment to play collegiate football in Manhattan at K-State, announcing via X (formerly Twitter) Sunday afternoon.

According to his social media, K-State was Jackson’s first Division I offer. He then took an official visit on June 7 then committed Sunday, June 9.

Jackson, who is 6-foot-2 and 175 lbs., is a three-star recruit on 247Sports and the 8th best football recruit in Kansas for the class of 2025. In his junior year at Derby, he recorded 38 total tackles en route to their State Runners-Up 2023 season.

247Sports Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks gave this scouting report on Jackson, which can be seen on his 247Sports player profile:

Lean, wiry athlete with verified speed markers on the track. Size has not been third party-verified, but believed to own above average height and frame potential. Uses wiry build and perceived longer levers to crowd the catch point. Plays in phase downfield to allow him to stay sticky. Willing tackler who will participate in the perimeter run game when needed. Brings value as a potential core special teamer sooner than later. Ran several sub-11.00-second 100-meter times in Spring 2024. Needs to increase ball production. Projects as a potential P4-caliber prospect at cornerback with developmental upside pending verified physical specs.

Jackson also finished in 3rd place in the 200M Dash and 5th in the 100M Dash in the 6A Track & Field State Championships in Wichita last spring.
