McPHERSON, Kan. (BartonSports.com) – The Barton Community College men’s golf team opened the season by climbing three spots in the final round of the two-day Central Kansas Classic to finish 7th overall of the fourteen team 10th Annual event.
The Cougars carded 303 opening round on Monday and following the afternoon round being canceled due to weather, returned to McPherson’s Turkey Creek Golf Course on Tuesday morning in tenth position before firing a 298 in moving up the team placings with a combined 41-over 601 score.
Leading the five-man Barton squad were a pair of sophomores as Kaleb Lambert placed 7th in the 73-man field with Martin Chevallier finishing in the 17th position.
Lambert’s opening 1-under 69 sat in the third spot after Monday but slipped four spots during final day action with a 4-over 74 in accumulating a 3-over 143 total for the two rounds.
Chevallier made one of the tournaments largest final round charges up the leaderboard following an opening 6-over with a fourteen spot climb behind a 1-over 71 card moving into the top-20 with a 7-over 147.
Wintakorn Suwanmuang led the trio of freshman on consistent 8-over and 7-over cards for a two-spot climb to 42nd on a 15-over 155 accumulation.
One stroke behind in 45th was Matteu Cauvin-Piacentini, climbing eight spots following an 80 card with a 76 for a 16-over 156, as Talon Reynolds rounded out the entries in 52nd at 19-over 159 behind near identical 80 and 79 cards.
The Barton men return to the links next Monday in Council Bluffs, Iowa, for the two-day Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase held at the Bent Tree Golf Course.
