Cole Toureau pitched into the sixth inning Monday, allowing just one hit, and the Hutchinson Monarchs won their third straight to start the season, dispatching the Kingman Islanders 11-1 at Hobart-Detter Field.

The game ended in the bottom of the seventh inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Toureau, the starting pitcher hero in the Monarchs’ first NBC World Series championship win in 2023, gave up one run on one hit while striking out five in 5 2/3 innings in earning the win. Gabe Wiinans pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits and striking out four.

The Monarchs had seven hits and benefited from 11 walks. Nash Wray reached base safely three times – one hit and two walks – and scored four runs. Marcus Gradney and Brady Taylor drove in two runs apiece, and JJ Spafford led the Monarchs with two hits. Gradney’s two-run single in the first inning gave the Monarchs the lead for good.

The Monarchs will hit the road for a 7 p.m. game Wednesday at Kingman.
