KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Chiefs.com) – The Kansas City Chiefs brought back two defensive players on Wednesday with the re-signings of safety Deon Bush and defensive tackle Mike Pennel.

Bush returns for his third season with the Chiefs after appearing in six games for Kansas City last season. He was a core special teams contributor when he played, recording at least 70 percent of the Chiefs’ special teams snaps in each of his final five regular-season games. Bush then matched the team-lead with 85 special teams snaps during the postseason, and when called upon defensively, he hauled in a critical interception against the Baltimore Ravens during the AFC Championship Game.

Pennel, who joined the Chiefs’ practice squad in late October, logged three appearances during the regular season before playing in all four of Kansas City’s playoff games. He recorded exactly 40 snaps in both the Divisional Round and Super Bowl LVIII, earning the second-best defensive Pro Football Focus grade of any player in the latter contest.

This marks the second stint with Kansas City for Pennel, who also played for the Chiefs between the 2019-20 campaigns.

Bush and Pennel join linebacker Drue Tranquill, who also re-signed with the Chiefs on Wednesday, as all three players aim to bring a third-straight Lombardi Trophy to Kansas City.
