Cheney to Play Andale in Title Game of Halstead Adolph Rupp Classic

HALSTEAD, Kan. — Cheney will play Andale for the championship of the Halstead Adolph Rupp Tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

In the semifinals, Cheney defeated Haven 70-60 and Andale defeated Garden Plain 50-45 in overtime.

The Haven boys (7-8) were led in scoring by Brogan Wray with 14 points. Wyatt Bontrager added 12 points, Cole Brawnier 11 and Devin Boice 9.

Sam Harp scored 15 to lead Andale, hitting 6 of 8 free throws in overtime. Garden Plain’s Cooper Eck had 20 points, hitting four 3-pointers.

The Halstead boys lost to Winfield 49-39 in the consolation round of the Adolph Rupp Tournament Thursday afternoon.

The host Dragons led the Vikings 9-7 after one quarter and 18-14 at halftime. Winfield took a 30-29 lead after three quarters and outscored the Dragons 19-10 in the fourth quarter.

The Halstead boys were led by four players with 6 points each — Wyatt Hobbs, Reece Carmichael, Damien Whillock and Noah Brantley.

Evan Hutto led Winfield with 17 points. La’Gend Cyrus-Riley scored 16 points and Gavin Estes contributed 9.

In the other consolation game, Lawrence defeated Rose Hill 74-51.

Halstead will play Rose Hill for seventh place at 3 p.m. Friday, Winfield plays Lawrence for fifth place at 4:30 p.m. and Haven will play Garden Plain for third place at 6 p.m.
