The Norwich Eagle boys basketball team defeated the Central Plains Oilers 62-52 in the third-place game of the Class 1A Division I state tournament Friday afternoon at Dodge City’s United Wireless Arena.
Norwich finished the season with a 24-5 record and Central Plains finished 25-4.
The Eagles led 20-15 in the first quarter, 26-20 at halftime and 46-32 at the end of the third quarter. The Oilers outscored the Eagles 20-16 in the fourth quarter.
Three players combined for 53 of Norwich’s 62 points: Drew Kelly (19), Jayden Benge (17) and Lane Hilger (17). Lucas Adams scored 4 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Kelly grabbed 9 rebounds. Benge dished off 7 assists and had 4 steals.
Four players scored 49 of Central Plains’ 52 points: Brodie Crites (13), Ryan Siemson (13), Peyton Dody (12) and Scott Lamatsch (11). Siemson grabbed 6 rebounds.
