The Hutchinson Central Christian girls basketball team, ranked third in Kansas Class 1A Division II, defeated Elyria Christian 43-38 Tuesday night in the first round of the Eli J. Walter Invitational.
Swanson led the Central Christian girls with 17 points and Avery Kauffman scored 14.
The tournament is hosted by Berean Academy in Elbing.
The Hutchinson Central Christian boys basketball team lost to the host Warriors from Berean Academy 56-23.
Piercen Huff scored 13 of the CCHS Cougars’ 23 points.
