NEWTON, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – Freshman Jaydon Carruthers shot a season-low round of 68 on Tuesday to keep the No. 3-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team within striking distance after two round of the Grier Jones Shocker Classic at Sand Creek Station.
Carruthers led the Blue Dragons to an even-par team round of 288 on Monday in the second of three rounds. The final round is Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Blue Dragon golfers will tee off on holes 6 through 10 and will be paired with Indian Hills, Xavier, and Midland.

The Blue Dragons are nine strokes behind first place NCAA Division Incarnate Word, which shot a 280 on Monday and is at 573 through 36 holes. SIU-Edwardsville shot the low team round of the second round at 278 and is second at 575. Wichita State is third at 579 after a 286 on Monday. First-round leader, the University of Denver, is fourth at 581. The Pioneers shot 291 on Monday.
Hutchinson is the highest-placing NJCAA team in the field. Indian Hills is right behind the Blue Dragons in a sixth-place tie at 585. Midland is tied for eighth at 586. Dodge City is 13th at 605.
Carruthers posted his first collegiate round in the 60s on Monday to lead the Dragons with a 4-under 68. The freshman from Derby was 1-under at the turn. He had a birdie on No. 14 and eagled No. 16. With pars on Nos. 17 and 18, Carruthers closed out his 68, which was the third lowest individual round of the day,
Carruthers and sophomore Charlie Box are tied for 15th at 1-over 145.
Box finished the second round with an even-par 72, posting four birdies and four bogeys.
Sophomore Louis Ross had a birdie on No. 17 to close at 1-over 73 for the second-straight round. Ross is at 146 for 36 holes and is tied for 24th.
Freshman Jack Northgraves had a 75 in the second round and was the fourth score the Dragons used in their team score. Northgraves is tied for 32nd at 148. Sophomore David Razinskas is tied for 67th after two round, posting an 80 on Tuesday for a 36-hole score of 155.
Incarnate Word’s Ken-Marten Soo is the individual leader at 7-under 136 after firing a tournament-los 66 on Monday.
