CHENEY – Cameron Kiser scored a career-high 20 points, and the Trinity Catholic boys shook off another slow start, coming back to beat El Dorado 46-44 in the fifth-place game on Saturday at the Cheney Cardinal Classic.
It was the second straight game that Kiser, a senior guard, was the game’s leading scorer.
While the Celtrics struggled to get the offense rolling early, like in Tuesday’s three-point loss at Wellington, Kiser helped keep the Celtics afloat, scoring 14 of their 23 first-half points.
In the final seconds of the first half, Lawson Dowsey made a free throw, missed the second, and Kiser tried a long 3-pointer. He missed but was fouled. He made all three free throws, and what was a nine-point deficit was suddenly just 28-23.
Trinity held El Dorado to just 16 second-half points.
The Celtics improved to 2-3 and will travel to Wichita Classical on Tuesday for their final game in 2025.
Chaparral girls 51, Trinity Catholic 39 – The Celtics had their first halftime lead of the season, and increased it to as many as five points in the third quarter, but then Chaparral’s offense settled in and the Roadrunners rallied for a 51-39 win.
Two Celtics set career highs in scoring – junior Ciena Maskil scored 16 points, including 12 in the second half. Anika Paulsrud added 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers, which doubled her season total.
Alyssa Guajardo added six points for Trinity, setting a season-best for her.
