McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson Bullpup varsity teams looked to build off of a successful first semester of basketball with back-to-back days of AVCTL D3 games after multiple postponements.

McPherson was originally scheduled to return Friday, Jan. 5 on the road against Circle, but the games were postponed to Monday, Jan. 29 due to inclement weather. Following that game, they were scheduled to host Augusta on Tuesday, Jan. 9, but the games were postponed multiple times after a winter storm to Thursday, Jan. 11.

GIRLS: McPherson 54, Augusta 29

The Bullpup varsity girls were looking to come off of a loss just before the winter break against Bishop Miege. The first quarter was a low-scoring 9-7 advantage for the Bullpups, but they pulled away winning 54-29, ending the game with a running clock in the 4th quarter.

Jayla McLeod led with 18 points. Freshman Jaela Thompson came just shy of a triple-double with 17 pts, 8 steals and 7 rebounds.

BOYS: McPherson 62, Augusta 19

The McPherson boys picked up where they left off defeating the Augusta Orioles in dominating fashion, allowing the fewest points defensively this season. The game was filled with highlight-reel type dunks, with six dunks total, including a couple of alley-oops from Kyden Thompson and Gabe Pyle.

Gabe Pyle led with 18 points, Kyden Thompson finished with 16 and Cory Muehler had 12.

After defeating Augusta Thursday, McPherson traveled to Mulvane Friday to continue AVCTL D3 play. The Bullpup girls led from start to finish winning 56-39, despite Mulvane’s valiant efforts to try to come back.

BOYS: McPherson 67, Mulvane 42

McPherson began the game on a 7-0 run, but Mulvane stormed back and kept it close with multiple lead changes in the first half. The Wildcats led 24-23 halfway through the 2nd quarter, but the Bullpups ended the half on a 12-0 run and finished the game outscoring Mulvane 44-18 since they trailed in the 2nd, en route to their 67-42 win, keeping them undefeated on the season.

Gabe Pyle finished with a team-high 21 points, Cory Muehler added 16 points and Kyden Thompson finished with 14.
