McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson High School Varsity Boys Tennis team finished in 4th place among Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League (AVCTL) Divisions 3 & 4 Championships Monday, May 5.

Head tennis coach Tyler Brown dons the league as what is arguably the most competitive league in the state, with heavyweights such as Wichita Collegiate and reigning 4A State Champion Buhler. Collegiate won the league and Buhler finished in second. Winfield finished just one point above McPherson for 3rd place.

The Doubles groups each finished in the top four, going against, and defeating, tough competition. Bryson Archer & Alex Berger went 3-1 in the context and Jonas Emery & Mason Eisenbarth finished 4th going 2-2. The two duos faced each other for the 3rd place match, but Archer & Berger won in two sets 6-3, 6-2.

Freshman Cooper Bohme placed in 7th in Singles with a 2-2 record, being just a tiebreaker away from earning All-League honors. Manny Morales finished 11th in the Singles going 1-2 after facing tough competition.

The team will now focus on Regionals, which will be Saturday, May 10 at Scott City. Brown mentioned that the goal is to qualify the full team for the state tournament to put themselves in a position to win the State Title. The 4A State Championships will be May 16-17 in Winfield.
