SALINA, Kan. – The McPherson High Girls Soccer team opened the spring season on Tuesday, with a dominant performance against the Salina Central Mustangs, winning 9-0.

Freshman Addison Shaft was given an early opportunity, and was in the right place at the right time, forcing an own-goal from Salina Central to put McPherson on the board, and just minutes later she would give the Pups a 2-0 lead on a rebound put-back.

Baylee Simmelink also had an incredible evening for the Bullpups, finishing with three goals for a hat-trick. Her first goal and last goal was assisted by Alivia Villalobos, as Villalobos would claim the following goal before assisting Ellie Bower for her second goal of the game, shortly into the second half.

It would become a 9-0 lead after another own-goal from the Mustangs, as Kenna Dale was credited with the assist. Ella Buschbom and Alyssa Harger both preserved the shutout with 1 save a piece.

The Bullpups will return to action Monday, hosting the 17th Annual McPherson Invitational Girls Soccer Tournament at McPherson High School. They will open with Salina South at 4:30.

Below is the bracket for the 17th MIT scheduled for the 27th, 28th and 31st.
