Bullpups Girls Soccer Falls in Double-OT Thriller to Buhler

BUHLER, Kan. – Stakes were already high going into the McPherson vs. Buhler Girls Soccer match with both teams neck-and-neck in 4th & 5th in the 4-1A West Regional standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season. Sprinkle it with a rivalry and you have a recipe for a match to remember.

The Bullpups struck first in the 16th minute with a goal scored by Riggs Kuhn, assisted by Grace Prescott. They would keep the 1-0 lead into halftime. The Crusaders would tie the game with 35 minutes remaining in the 2nd half with a goal of their own.

The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 after both halves, bringing the match into OT, but Buhler would score the game-winning goal on a deep, near-30-yard shot.

The Bullpups finished with 8 shots on goal. GK Alyssa Hager ended with 4 saves on the match.

McPherson is now 7-5-1 on the season and finish 4-1 against AVCTL Div. III opponents. McPherson, Buhler and Augusta all finished 4-1 in divisional play, giving all three teams a share of the title.

The Bullpups have three games remaining in the regular season before regionals, including Thursday, May 2 at home against Wichita-Collegiate.
