Bullpup Track & Field Open Season at Emporia State HS Relays

EMPORIA, Kan. – McPherson High School Track & Field opened the 2026 season at Welch Stadium in Emporia on Saturday, March 28, at the ESU High School Relays. The girls finished 4th, the boys 5th.

The Bullpups were winners of three field events. Senior Caden Wenderott won two of those events. Wenderott won the Shot Put with a mark of 54-1.5 and won the Discus with 158-03. Karsen Burris won the other event for McPherson, winning the Javelin with a mark of 115-05.

In other field events, freshman Cayla Weimer placed 2nd in the Girls Triple Jump at 32-2.25. Freshman Kinnick Anderson finished 3rd in the Boys Triple Jump with a 40-11.0 mark. Andi Buschbom placed 4th in the Girls Long Jump at 16-07.

McPherson also earned good marks on the track. Kayden Friesen finished 2nd in the 800 M run at 2:04.98. Sophomore Tripp Pelzel finished just two seconds behind Friesen to place 4th. Brody Hoffman finished 4th in the Boys 200 M Run, while Adriana McLeod placed 5th in the Girls 200 M Run. Senior Caleb Muehler picked up where he left off from his strong senior campaign in Cross Country, placing 2nd in the 3200 M Run.

The relay teams had a strong day as well. The Girls 4x100M Relay team (Amara Dossett, Piper Solofra, Ella Wyssman, Andi Buschbom) placed 2nd, finishing as runners-up by only 0.13 seconds. The Boys 4x100M Relay team (Dylan Cabezus, Brody Hoffman, Kinnick Anderson, Jayren Stutzman) placed 4th, while the 4x400M Relay team (Dane Becker, Tripp Pelzel, Daniel Bowen, Kayden Friesen) also finished 4th.

The team’s next meet will be on Thursday, April 2, at McPherson High School for the McPherson County Early Season Track Meet.
