GIRLS TENNIS
Tuesday, Oct. 1 – Quad at Goddard
The Bullpups started off the week with a quad at Goddard, finishing in 2nd place as a team, finishing just one point behind Wellington.
McPherson did take the top spot in both Singles tournaments, with Maryn Sandbo and Dragon Rodriguez each finishing 3-0. In the Doubles tournaments, Dennedy Tully / McKenna Paul finished 2nd and Erin Olson / Avery Eveland finished 3rd.
“It was nice to be able to go to a smaller meet for once,” head coach Tyler Brown said. “After a stretch of 16 to 32 open draws, it was a good change of pace to play in a quad and be done and back home at a reasonable time .Our singles of Maryn and Dragon lead the way with them winning their divisions by going 3-0 on the day. Kennedy and McKenna only had one loss and that was to what could be the Regional Champion of the Winfield Regional, Aufdengarten and Cornejo from Wellington. They would bring home the silver. Erin and Avery would knock off a team from Independent in order to get 3rd.”
Monday, Oct. 7 – AVCTL Div. 3/4 Championships at McPherson
The Girls Tennis team followed the Quad with their first postseason match, the AVCTL Div. 3/4 Championships. The team finished 2nd behind Wichita-Collegiate.
The Bullpups took 3rd place in both Singles tournaments, with Maryn Sandbo in the first tournament and Quinn Liebl in the 2nd. Avery Unruh / Dragon Rodriguez finished 4th in the first Doubles tournament and Kennedy Tully / McKenna Paul finished 3rd in the second Doubles tournament.
“What an unbelievable day for tennis,” head coach Tyler Brown said. “The weather could not have been any better! After round one we had our entire team in the semi finals and the only other team to do that was Wichita Collegiate. The semi finals did not go how we had hoped today but that is just how it goes some days with everyone of our girls dropping that match. These girls will be back in action on Saturday on our home courts for Regionals.”
