McPherson High School Boys Swimming had a stellar week, starting with a second-place finish at the Salina Invitational on Thursday, Jan. 15.
McPherson won one event and placed in the top three in five total events. Sophomore Cooper Bohme won the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:39.87, ten seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Bohme also placed 2nd in the 200 Freestyle.
Ben Bocox placed 3rd in the 100 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Backstroke. Beckett Schuckman placed 3rd in the 100 Butterfly and 4th in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
The relay teams also had a strong day, placing 2nd in the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
The team followed up in the Andover Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17, placing 11th. The 200 Freestyle Relay had a State Consideration time of 1:44.64. They’ll return to the pool in Wichita on Saturday, Jan. 24, barring any potential setbacks due to weather.
The McPherson Girls and Boys Wrestling teams participated in the Tournament of Champions in Newton.
The 5th annual girls tournament saw McPherson finish 29th, as they faced tough 5A and 6A competition. Individually, nobody placed for McPherson, but the strongest day belonged to Amara Dossett with six points after winning her first two matches. Alexis Minter earned the team five points, going 3-2 on the tournament.
The 63rd annual boys tournament ended with the Bullpups placing 23rd. Dylan Hall placed 5th in the 215 Class, going 5-2 on the tournament. Parker Hulvey earned the team 7 points in 106, and Carter Leathers also earned McPherson seven points, but in the 285 class.
The Girls team will head to Eureka for an invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24, also barring potential setbacks due to the potential winter storm heading to Kansas.
