HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The AVCTL Girls Swimming Tournament took place on Friday, where the McPherson-area swimmers continued to see improvements on their time, including a number of top three finishes, although the co-op team would be disconnected, McPherson would finish second amongst eight other teams.
The Bullpups would claim first in three events led by Danica Brunk, who took first in the 100 and 200 freestyle, then joined Claire Schmidt, Adyson Wiens and Clarea Williams to take first in the 200 medley relay.
“League is always a fun meet to watch.” said Head Coach Angela Brunk, “When we get to league and state we lose our co-op swimmers from Moundridge and Smoky Valley. They were able to swim as exhibition swimmers, but not for points for McPherson.” She was pleased with the team’s second place performance with only eight McPherson swimmers competing for points.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Hubbard, Vanderhoof, Heskett, Pickerell would take second, and other top three finishes from McPherson included; Bree Pickerell, who took second in the 200 IM and third in the 500 freestyle, while Adyson Wiens was second in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
The season concludes at the Class 5-1A State Meet in Topeka. McPherson will compete in the Swimming Prelims on Friday at 4 p.m; while the finals will be held Saturday at 4 p.m.
