SALINA, Kan. – It was another impressive meet for the McPherson High Girls Swim team on Thursday, improving on 16 of their 22 times for a second place finish.
Adyson Wiens recorded two new state consideration times in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, placing within the top three. Bree Pickerell earned state consideration with a 2nd place finish in the 100 backstroke. Gracy Hubbard was less than a second behind, finishing 3rd, and was 2nd in the 500 freestyle.
“The girls have been working really hard at practice and it is showing in their times.” noted Head Coach Angela Brunk, “We had lots of best times and several new state and consideration times.”
Danica Brunk had a remarkable day, recording a new state qualifying time in the 100 Butterfly with a 1st place finish. Brunk was also part of the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relays that finished first. Joining Brunk on the Freestyle Relay team was Olivia Bengston, Claire Schmidt and Adyson Wiens, Bengston alternated with Clarea Williams in the 200 Medley.
Coach Brunk concluded by saying, “This meet was probably our best individual placing this season because we placed at least one swimmer in the top 3 in almost every event.”
The MHS Girls Swim team will return to the pool Tuesday, for an invitational in Newton beginning at 1 p.m.
