AUGUSTA, Kan. – The McPherson High School Girls Basketball team used a 15-0 run in the first half to push past Augusta in an AVCTL-3 matchup on Friday, Feb. 20, winning their third straight game 67-35.
McPherson struggled to score in the first four minutes, trailing 7-2, before ending the first quarter on a 15-0 run to lead 17-7 at the end of the first quarter. The team kept their feet on the gas pedal, as five Bullpups scored 8 or more points, which two of which reaching double-figures, to win 67-35, keeping them in first place in the league.
The Bullpups made 21 shots in total, seven of which were from behind the three-point line. They also drew 14 fouls, putting them at the free throw line 23 times, converting on 18 of those attempts.
Senior Brooke Doile led all scorers with a season-high 21 points. Rylie Whitfield added 11 points, hitting three shots from behind the arc.
McPherson improves to 11-10 on the season, 7-1 in league play. The Bullpups will host Mulvane for Senior Night on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Mulvane and McPherson are tied for first place at 7-1 in the AVCTL-3 standings, clinching the winner of Tuesday’s matchup at least a share of the league title.
