McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson High School football team started off their 2024 in front of a full crowd at McPherson Stadium, but suffered a season-opening loss to Great Bend for the second year in a row.

Great Bend started strong out of the gate returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown to make it 6-0 after a missed PAT. McPherson answered back in their opening drive offensively, driving the ball down and scoring on a three-yard TD pass from Carter Allen to Catch Delaney. However, those six points were the only points of the game for the Bullpups.

The Panthers of Great Bend scored in the second quarter to make it 14-6 at halftime. The third quarter was all Panthers following a 79-yard touchdown run and a trick play WR to QB pass to make it 28-6. Both defenses held in the fourth quarter, making the 28-6 score the final.
