McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School Boys Soccer returned home following their OT victory over Buhler on Tuesday, defeating 5A, and previously unbeaten, Newton 2-1.

McPherson ended up having just two shots on goal, both of which found the back of the net. Parker Riemann scored the first goal off an assist by Ben Bocox just minutes after kickoff. Newton tied the game later in the half, tying the match at 1-1 at halftime.

Keeper Gabe Standfast finished with 14 saves, including a penalty kick save that kept the match tied. McPherson took the lead after a couple of deflections, finding Beckett Schuckman to score the game-winning goal with 10 minutes remaining. The final ten minutes saw feisty defense, but McPherson pulled off the victory 2-1, handing Newton their first loss of the season.

“It was a really great example of Bullpup Soccer and an amazing game to witness,” Head Coach Chris Adrian said. “I’m so proud of the boys and the effort they put into the game.”

The win moves McPherson to 4-4 on the season. They will travel to face Rose Hill on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
