McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School Boys Soccer played a stellar match Tuesday, Sept. 16 in their home opener, defeating El Dorado 8-0 in a one-half mercy rule win.

Manny Morales led the Bullpups with a haul, scoring four goals in the match and assisting on two others. Yahir Valadez had a hat trick of three goals, adding two assists. Ben Bocox added the other goal in the match. All eight goals were scored in the first half, forcing a mercy rule win at halftime. Keeper Gabe Standfast made three saves.

It was the fifth game in seven days for McPherson after starting the season at the Maize South Invitational, then losing on the road against Wichita-Classical 4-3 on Monday. “The previous four games were all against really tough teams on the road,” Head Coach Chris Adrian said. “It was great to be home finally and this game let us focus on our offense. As a team, it was nice to see players with chances to get forward and build confidence moving up the field. We were also able to give some rest to a lot of players in preparation of another tough stretch approaching.”

The stretch Adrian mentioned begins Thursday, Sept. 18 with a road match against Salina-South. The Bullpups then travel to Buhler for their first league match Tuesday, Sept. 23 before returning home to play two days later against Newton.
