SALINA, Kan. – The McPherson High Bullpup Boys Basketball squad is heading to the State Championship for the second straight year after defeating Baldwin in the State Semifinals 62-49.
Both teams went back and forth to start the game, all the way to the end of the first half. The game was tied in the half’s closing seconds before Gabe Pyle hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to put the Bullpups up 30-27.
The second half was all Bullpups, with stifling defense limiting Baldwin to just four made shots in the final 16 minutes. McPherson would pull away at the end, winning 62-49.
Cory Muehler had a career-high 26 points, shooting 10-17, including 4-8 on three’s. Kyden Thompson added 15 points and Gabe Pyle had 13.
McPherson will face the winner of #2. Atchison vs. #3. Hugoton in the State Championship Saturday at 6:15 p.m. The game will be broadcast on 98.9/1540 KMCP.
