McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School Baseball met with Mulvane Monday, April 29 with both teams tied for 1st in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division 3 (AVCTL D3) standings, but the Bullpups prevailed winning both games, clinching the outright league title for the 4th straight year.

GAME ONE

McPherson – 3, Mulvane – 0

A pitcher’s duel started off the double-header with both starting pitchers throwing 5.2 innings and throwing 10 strikeouts each. The Bullpups went against Parker Clubb, Mulvane’s sophomore ace who is committed to play NCAA Division I baseball at Louisville. McPherson played small ball early, leading off the 1st with a walk, stolen base, then infield single, scoring the first run.

Logan Beede started on the mound for McPherson, allowing just three hits in 5.2 innings and getting out of situations with Wildcat runners in scoring position. Both Clubb and Beede had to be taken out after throwing past maximum 105 pitch count.

McPherson held a 1-0 lead going to the top of the 7th looking for insurance runs. A walk and a hit-by-pitch put two on base. With two outs, freshman Carter Bengtson drove both runners home on a single to center field, giving closer Carter Allen a much needed cushion. Allen closed off the bottom of the 7th, clinching at least a share of the division title after the game one win.
