Bullpup Baseball Steals 21 Bases in Sweep at Chanute

CHANUTE, Kan. – McPherson High School Baseball stole a combined 21 bases in their doubleheader sweep at Chanute, run-ruling game one 13-1 in five innings before winning 9-1.

Junior Carter Bengtson led the Bullpups on the base paths, stealing a combined 7 bases and scoring 5 runs in the doubleheader. He also hit 3-4 with 2 RBI and drawing 3 walks. Senior Cade Strathman and sophomore Colt Chapman stole four apiece.

Senior Cowen Huggard started game one on the mound, earning his second win of the season. He threw all five innings, struck out eight batters, allowing only one base hit. He also hit 2-3 with 3 RBI.

Chapman got the win in game two, throwing four innings and had six strikeouts in his first career pitching start. He was strong at the plate as well, hitting 2-4 with 3 RBI. Strathman hit strongly in game two, hitting 3-5 with a pair of runs driven in.

McPherson improves to 7-1 on the season. The Bullpups will host Andale/Garden Plain on Monday, April 6 at the Grant Sports Complex in McPherson.
