VALLEY CENTER, Kan. – McPherson High School Varsity Baseball began its season at Valley Center on Monday, March 23, but the first game of the doubleheader was suspended due to unsafe playing conditions. The game will resume Tuesday, March 24, at 4:00 p.m. at Andover High School.

The first three innings went on as normal, as Valley Center led 5-1 after a four-run third inning. McPherson moved to the top of the 4th inning, scoring a run on a Bo Barkley RBI Single.

Following a pitching change by Valley Center, the two-man umpiring crew and the head coaches, McPherson’s Heath Gerstner & Valley Center’s Randy Mutt, met on the pitcher’s mound, citing issues with the area where pitchers would plant their front leg. The teams decided to suspend the game to avoid any potential injuries.

The teams will resume game one at Andover High School on Tuesday. Valley Center will have a 5-2 lead at the top of the 4th inning. McPherson will be up to bat with runners at first and third base with no outs. Game two of the doubleheader will be played after game one.

Coverage of both games will be broadcast on 98.9/1540 KMCP, mcphersonradio.com, and the Ad Astra Radio mobile app.

The JV Baseball squad won both matchups, winning a lengthy battle in game one 17-13 before a stellar defensive game won them game two 9-2.
