Bullpup Baseball Hits 3 Homers in Run-Rule Sweep vs. Winfield

McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson High School Varsity Baseball team hosted its home opener on Monday, March 30, run-ruling their league foe, the Winfield Vikings, 16-1 in four innings in both games of the doubleheader.

The Bullpup offense drew 11 walks and were hit by 5 pitches in the opening game. The team had just five base hits, three of which were for extra bases, and capitalized on five defensive errors by Winfield.

The extra-base-knocks were highlighted by a solo home run by Cade Strathman, the first homer for McPherson of the 2026 season. Asher Allen and Colt Chapman each hit a double, the latter cleared the bases to end the first game 16-1 in the fourth.

Cru Buchman earned the win on the mound, throwing all four innings while striking out eight. Buchman earned his first win of the season.

The home crowd heard more dings off of the McPherson bats, as the Bullpups had 12 hits. Eight of those hits went for extra bases, with five doubles, one triple, and two home runs. Three batters (Carter Bengtson, Cru Buchman, and Asher Allen) had a multi-hit day. Bengtson went 2-3 with a triple and scored three runs. Buchman hit two doubles. Cade Strathman hit a two-run home run, his second of the day, and Colt Chapman added a solo homer.

Strathman also started on the mound, throwing the first two innings and striking out four batters, earning the win. Chapman and Bengtson each threw a scoreless frame as well.

The Bullpups improve to 4-2 on the season, 3-1 vs. AVCTL-3 opponents. They’ll start a stretch of non-divisional games, starting on the road against Chanute on Thursday, April 2.
