Bullpup Baseball Extends Win Streak, Sweeps Andale/GP

McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School Baseball improved its win streak to six in a row after defeating Andale/Garden Plain (Andale/GP) in both games of a cross-divisional doubleheader on Monday, April 6, at Grant Sports Complex.

After giving up two runs on an error in the first inning, the Bullpups bounced back to run-rule Andale/GP 13-3 in game one. McPherson drew 13 walks and stole six bases. Their offense also contributed with nine hits. Takoda Linn, Bo Barkley, and Graham Prescott, the 7th, 8th, and 9th batters in the order respectively, had two hits apiece. Barkley and Cru Buchman had 3 RBI’s each.

Buchman threw all five innings for McPherson, earning his second win of the season after his third start. He gave up just two earned runs on three hits, striking out four batters.

A sixth-inning spurt by McPherson gave them insurance to defeat Andale/GP 7-1 in game two. The Bullpups had a 3-0 lead before the Indians crossed the plate in the 5th inning. McPherson’s pitcher, Cade Strathman, had the bases loaded with one out in the 5th, but limited the damage following a strikeout and a groundout.

The Bullpups had a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth, when Carter Bengtson got his first hit of the game to lead off the inning before Strathman delivered with a two-run home run, his third of the season. Buchman and Colt Chapman reached base, allowing Prescott to drive in a two-run single. Brady Rinker closed out on the mound in the 7th inning to help McPherson win 7-1.

Strathman threw the first six innings, striking out eight batters to earn his 3rd win in as many starts this season. He and Bo Barkley had two hits each to lead McPherson offensively.

McPherson moves to 9-1 on the season. They will resume AVCTL-3 play on Friday, April 10 at Circle.
