WICHITA, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs were selected to finish fifth in the Dr. Ted Kessinger Division in both preseason polls following KCAC football media day on Wednesday (Aug. 2).

“We are going to treat every game like it will send us to the playoffs, because it just might,” head coach Jeremiah Fiscus said at the KCAC virtual media day.

The Bulldogs, who finished tied for fifth in the league a season ago, grabbed 11 points in the coaches poll and 49 points in the preseason media poll.

Southwestern took the top spot in both polls, finishing with 12 points and three first-place votes in the coaches poll and securing 110 points and 12 first-place tallies in the media ranking.

Newcomer Evangel was tabbed second in both selections, followed by Bethel and Friends to round out the top four in the Kessinger Division.

Kansas Wesleyan was picked to win the Franklin ‘Gene’ Bissell Division, securing five first-place votes in the coaches poll and 13 first-place tallies in the media poll. Avila snagged the remaining first-place vote in the coaches poll to come in second, followed by Tabor, Saint Mary, and Ottawa.

“We are excited to get all of our guys back on campus this week,” Fiscus said. “We had a good spring, and they are hungry and ready to compete.”

The Bulldogs open the season at McPherson Stadium on Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. with a date against Tabor College. The Bluejays won last year’s meeting 17-16, snapping a three-game winning streak by the Bulldogs.
