LINDSBORG, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College men’s tennis team put forth a tremendous effort at the KCAC Individual Championships in Lindsborg, Kan. over the weekend.
The Bulldogs won a staggering five KCAC Individual titles, including nearly sweeping all three doubles draws.
At No. 1 singles, Marcus Nardy started the tournament with a 9-8 (7-3) victory over Carlos Grimaldi. After knocking off fifth-seed Jamo Perez Wienese 8-2, he fell in the title match by an 8-5 score to Bruno Suiama.
Arthur Nardy had the three seed at No. 2 singles and promptly bested his first foe, Tiago Galoppo, by an 8-4 score. He ousted Cristobal Fuentes 8-1 in the semifinals before besting Oscar Giorgio 6-3, 6-2 in the championship match.
At No. 3 singles, Daniel Marcano garnered the No. 3 seed and promptly won his first match by an 8-3 count over Adam Hanson. He secured a spot in the title match with an 8-0 victory over Zeke Mumford, but lost to Adam King in a thriller, 6-1, 1-6, 10-6.
Oscar Brouwer earned the top seed at No. 4 singles. He picked up an 8-5 victory over Carlos Rodriguez to get things started. After defeating Paul Jittawait by an 8-1 score, Brouwer won the No. 4 singles 6-7, 6-4, 11-9 over second-seeded Billy Haoda.
Second-seeded Jayson Wasserfuhr tallied an 8-3 win in his opening match against seventh-seeded Daniel Lozano. He accounted for an 8-3 victory in the semifinals over Rubem Bogomoltz before dispatching No. 5 Jonah Bergeron 6-2, 6-4, in the title match.
At No. 6 singles, Balazs Temesvari had the top seed and quickly won his match against No. 8 Cash Harrison by an 8-2 score. After dropping a match to No. 4 seed Jack Hanson, Temesvari responded by claiming third place in the draw. In the third-place match, he won by a 4-0 count before his opponent retired.
In doubles action, Brouwer and Marcano held the No. 2 seed and picked up an opening-round victory by an 8-0 score at No. 1. The team advanced to the championship match after the opposition withdrew and promptly posted a victory in the draw by an 8-5 score of Petr Kollar and Jorge Batista.
Arthur Nardy and Wasserfuhr had the No. 1 seed at No. 2 doubles and bested their opponents Friday to get things started. The Bulldogs claimed another championship after the duo earned a spot in the title match by a 9-7 score. Wasserfuhr and Nardy claimed the title by an 8-4 count.
At No. 3 doubles, Texas Ranger Schmidt and Simon Delgadillo notched an 8-3 win in their first match. The tandem won the quarterfinal contest via a withdrawal, earning a spot in the title match. The squad advanced to the championship after their opponent withdrew. Despite a valiant effort, the duo lost by a 9-7 score.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday, Sept. 20 at the ITA Regional Championship in Salina, Kan.
