McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — A game full of highs and lows ends with the Bulldogs taking down the Tabor College BlueJays for their first win in KCAC conference play in 2024 by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday (Sep 18) night.
McPherson started the game off red hot in the first half by jumping out to a 2-0 lead. The first goal was scored in the 26th minute by senior Abdul Kanu, who chipped in a rebound off an Anthony Pereira shot that was blocked. Pereira was credited with the assists. Sergio Gallegos scored goal number two for MC in the 42nd minute as a great leading pass from Zane Sullivan set up the senior perfectly to give MC a two goal cushion.
Tabor refused to go away quietly. In the 46th minute of the contest, Andre Trigo split the MC defense and scored the unassisted goal to make it 2-1. The BlueJays evened the score at two with another goal, this one scored by Daniel Davis in the 64th minute. The two teams remained deadlocked up to the 75th minute until Tijs Stumphius knocked in a header thanks to another perfectly placed pass from Sullivan. A strong defensive effort throughout the remainder of the contest resulted in the Bulldogs surviving getting the win infront of the McPherson faithful and the team’s first two game win streak since 2022. Keito Takehara Jr recorded six saves in his second win as goalkeeper for the Bulldogs.
McPherson returns to action on Saturday (Sep 21) as they play host to Avila University for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
