Bulldogs Drop Women’s KCAC Matchup at Avila


KANSAS CITY, Mo. ( — The Avila University Eagles scored 34 points in the paint Wednesday evening (Jan. 17) en route to a 79-48 win over the McPherson College Bulldogs at Mabee Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Mo.


The Bulldogs shot 34.5 percent from the field, but were forced into 23 turnovers. Chloe Clevenger led MC in the scoring column with 12 points. Clevenger also finished with two steals and two blocks. Madelyn Hankins added 11 points on just 4-for-5 shooting, while connecting on three of her four three point attempts.

Avila never trailed, jumping out to a 22-12 after the first quarter. From there, the Eagles expanded their lead to 39-20 at the break.

The Eagles shot 45.7 percent (32-for-70), and scored 15 second chance points on 10 offensive rebounds.

Avila finished the game with 16 steals led by Marlie Wright with six. Hannah Smith scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Eagles, while Madilyn Melton added 16 points.

The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday (Jan. 20) to take on Sterling College at the Sport Center. Tipoff is slated for 5:00 P.M.
