DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (MacBulldogs.com) – For the first time in the team’s history, the Bulldogs took on the competition at the NCA National Event over the weekend (Apr. 11-Apr.12).

The 30th NCA College Nationals event was the largest ever hosted as the Bulldogs were one of just under 500 participating teams and over 10,000 overall contesting athletes.

Competing in the Spirit Rally Division, the Bulldogs scored a 83.85 in the preliminary round and scored a 84.25 in the final round. The team’s final score was divided up between the two rounds, with 25% of the team’s score coming from the preliminary round and the remaining 75% coming from the final round. After the scores were totaled up, MC finished with an overall score of 84.15 to finish in 2nd place.

“Attending NCA College Nationals was such a surreal experience”, head cheerleading coach Kristia Williams said. “We are so grateful to our Athletic Director Josh Daume and the McPherson College community for helping us make this dream a reality for our team.”

Adding on to an already great weekend, the Bulldogs were also the recipients of the NCA/NDA Go Be Great award. The Go Be Great Award recognizes a team that has gone above and beyond to make the world a better place, outside of cheerleading and dance. The award highlights community service and giving back. The award was presented to the team by the Vice President of Varsity Spirit, Justin Carrier. The MC cheer team has volunteered over 170 hours so far this year and averages over 10 hours of community service per athlete.

“We are so honored to receive such a rare award”, Williams said. “Our team was more excited to get the Go Be Great award than any other trophy.”
