WICHITA, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — Three Bulldogs have been selected to the women’s tennis All-KCAC teams, as Camila Sanchez, Grace Maxey, and Taimi Nashiku all picked up all-conference honors, the league announced.
Sanchez, a native of Bradenton, Fla., finished her second season in a Bulldog uniform with a 10-6 record and a 6-2 mark in KCAC play, earning her First-Team All-KCAC honors. Playing in the #1 position for the Bulldogs, Sanchez had wins over Ana Josic from (RV) Reinhardt University and Alisha Moldakhmetova from NCAA Division II Northeastern State University.
Along with Sanchez’s doubles partner Nashiku, the pairing ended the regular season on a six-match winning streak to finish 12-7 overall and 9-1 in KCAC play. The duo also went 2-0 in the KCAC Tournament to help the Bulldogs win their first tournament title since 2019.
Maxey picked up a Second-Team All-KCAC nod after finishing a staggering 14-2 in the regular season, including a perfect 8-0 against KCAC opponents. Maxey’s lone losses came to Teodora Jovic, who at the time was the No. 12-ranked player in the NAIA, and Valeria Teran from NCAA Division II Northeastern State University.
On the doubles side, Maxey played alongside Alexa Garcia. The pair got off to a slow start to the season, but were a perfect 8-0 against KCAC foes, and finished the regular season on a five-match winning streak. The duo finished the regular season with a 9-6 mark overall.
“I couldn’t be any happier for these ladies,” head coach Keiran President said. “Some of these girls went undefeated in conference, or had minimal losses. Wish we could have gotten more girls up there but that shows how much our conference has improved on the Women’s side.”
MC is headed to Mobile, Ala., for the NAIA National Tournament where they will square off against No. 12-seeded Union College (Ky.). The match is set to begin on May 14 at 1:00 p.m.
