McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — A year of growth for the MC men’s soccer program is capped off with a trio of KCAC conference honors dished out as junior Keito Takehara Jr. and sophomore Nathan Van Wyck have been named to the All-Conference 2nd team while junior Anthony Pereira gets an honorable mention.
Takehara was the mainstay in goal for the Bulldogs, starting all 18 games for MC as the goalkeeper. He finished fourth in total saves with 78 while also finishing in the top 10 in save percentage in conference play en route to six wins.
Van Wyck finished the season with 11 goals, which led the Bulldogs and was third-best in the KCAC. He also finished with a team best 27 total points which was also good enough to finish third in the conference.
Anthony Pereira finished just behind Van Wyck with seven goals scored on the year following a season in which the junior led MC with 10 goals. Pereira also flashed his playmaking abilities this year, collecting a career high seven assists.
These three were instrumental in what turned out to be a strong year of growth for the Bulldogs. In year two under head coach Kent Freund, MC secured a 6-10-2 record and only just missed out on a berth to the KCAC tournament.
“I’m very proud of all three of these guys.” Coach Freund said. “They’re all deserving of this recognition and I’m looking forward to seeing their continued growth along with the continued growth of this program.”
