HILLSBORO, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs baseball squad got back on track Tuesday (Apr. 11), knocking off the Tabor College Bluejays 16-7 in Hillsboro, Kan to snap a three-game losing skid.
McPherson exploded offensively, scoring 16 runs off 20 hits and benefiting from home runs by Antonio Fernandez, Hunter Robinson, JT Edmunds, and Andres Artola.
Robinson finished a perfect 5-for-5 at the dish for the Bulldogs and drove in three runs, while Fernandez had four hits with a team-high four RBIs.
The Bulldogs put up one in each of the first two innings to grab a 2-0 lead in the early going, but the Bluejays leveled the score in the second.
From there, it was all Bulldogs, scoring nine unanswered runs over the next three innings. Edmunds broke the 2-2 gridlock with his first home run of the season, a solo blast to left-center field. Then Robinson tacked on two more with an RBI to deep left field. Fernandez kept the run going with a three-run shot in the fifth.
Darby Gilbert got the start on the mound for the Bulldogs, throwing 4.1 innings with three strikeouts.
The Bulldogs return to Bulldog Park this weekend for a three-game set against Avila University. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 15) starting at noon.
