The Buhler High School volleyball team (15-22) upset Mulvane (25-10) 25-19, 25-18 in the championship match of the Class 4A sub-state at Mulvane.
The Crusaders (14-22) defeated Towanda-Circle 25-23, 25-21 in the semifinals and Mulvane downed Chapman 25-19, 25-8.
Towanda-Circle finished the season with a 25-11 record and Chapman finished the season 13-24.
McPherson (34-5) won the Class 5A sub-state at McPherson with a 25-19, 25-18 over Wellington in the championship match.
In the semifinals, the Bullpups defeated Ulysses 25-10, 25-10 and Wellington defeated Clearwater 25-22, 25-15.
The Kansas Class 4A state tournament will take place next Thursday through Saturday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
Buhler and McPherson will be joined at the Class 4A state tournament by Clay Center (38-2), Andale (31-1), Shawnee Mission Bishop Miege (9-20), St. George-Rock Creek (32-6), Wamego (26-6) and Topeka Hayden (29-9).
