Buhler Varsity, JV Teams Sweep AVCTL 3 Cross Country Titles, Coach Curtis Morgan Named Coach of the Year

The Buhler High School girls and boys cross country teams swept the Ark Valley Central Kansas League Division 3 championships Thursday at Clapp Park in Wichita.

Buhler cross country coach Curtis Morgan was named AVCTL 3 Cross Country Coach of the Year.

The Buhler girls placed first with 32 points, followed by Augusta 56, Winfield 62, McPherson 91 and Mulvane 117.

The Buhler boys won their title with 44 points, followed by Augusta 55, McPherson 70, Mulvane 75, Winfield 96 and Towanda-Circle 153.

The Buhler boys and girls JV teams both placed first with 15 points.

Buhler’s Corbin Starkweather won the varsity girls 5K race with a time of 19 minutes, 22.39 seconds. Teammate Isabella Friesen placed third with a time of 20:15.88, followed by Isabella Rivera, eighth, 21:12.67; Brynlee Adams, 11th, 21:51.74; Haylee Kinast, 13th, 22:26.08; and Emma Smith, 22:33.12.

In the varsity boys 5K race, Buhler’s Gavin Lindahl placed second with a time of 16:34.92, followed by Ryan Cherry, fourth, 16:51.77; Samuel Hougham, 10th, 18:05.65; Zayden Mendenhall, 12th, 18:16.69; Ben Gazaway, 16th, 18:41.38; Cole Unruh, 27th, 19:32.9; and Noah Napier, 33rd, 20:34.17.

Buhler’s Aneesa Courson placed first with a time of 22:55.94, followed by Allison Johnson, second, 24:37.57; Khloe Blackwell, third, 24:38.44; Hannah Khan, fifth, 26:15.6; Harleigh Board, seventh, 29:11.25; Marley Hartnett, eighth, 32:14.28; and Jacey Combs, 10th, 38:42.57.

Buhler’s Christian Vaile, Graham McCarty, Silas Nowlan, Landes Little and Logan Johnson placed 1-2-3-4-5 with times of 19:06.56, 19:44.56, 19:55.71, 20:18.95 and 21:09.32.

Josh Mullen and Charles McComas placed sixth and seventh with times of 21:53.26 and 22:12.03. Tristan Black placed 12th in 23:10.65, followed by Joseph Andujo, 22nd, 25:19.69; and Kenai Chapman, 24th, 28:45.1.
