Buhler Tennis Earns Second Place Finish at Saturday’s Doug Gayer Classic

MCPHERSON, Kan.— Buhler tennis came in second at Saturday’s highly competitive Doug Gayer Classic in McPherson. The Crusaders finished just five points behind Manhattan in the 11-team field.

SINGLES RESULTS

Davian Spies reached the finals for a fourth consecutive year and placed second.

Tucker Schlatter lost a tough first-round match and battled to go 1-1 on the backside of the bracket.

DOUBLES RESULTS

Von Woleslagel and Reuben Harder won the doubles title. It was their third consecutive tournament title to begin the year.

Titus Bortzfield and Jaxton Gillette fell 8-6 in the second round, nearly pulling off an upset against McPherson’s Bryson Archer and Alex Berger. They worked the backside of the bracket to a 13th-place finish.

In three meets this season, Buhler has two first-place team finishes to go along with Saturday’s second-place effort. The team will host an eight-team tournament at the Buck Balzer Tennis Complex on Tuesday.
