TENNIS
Buhler tennis placed second at a very competitive league tennis meet on Monday in McPherson. Just three points separated the second through fourth place teams.
Using a mixed lineup from normal, Von Woleslagel placed fourth and Tucker Schallter placed eighth in open singles play. In open doubles, Davian Spies and Reuben Harder placed second, and Titus Bortzfield and Jaxton Gillete placed ninth.
The Crusaders, the defending 4A state champions, will host eight teams in one of four regionals on Friday at the Balzar Tennis Complex.
SOCCER
Buhler soccer lost a heartbreaker, 1-0, to rival McPherson on Tuesday night in McPherson. Ellie Bower found the net for the game’s only goal in the 25th minute. It was the first score surrendered by Buhler goalkeeper Sammie Brooks in the last four games.
The Crusaders (8-5-0) will finish out the regular season with three contests at home. They host Salina South (8-5-0) at Crusader Stadium on Thursday.
GOLF
Buhler golf competed in the 13-team I-135 Shootout hosted at Hesston Golf Course and Sand Creek Station in Newton on Tuesday. The team posted scores at both courses, with Drew DeMeyer and Zach Chance leading the team’s efforts.
The team will close out the regular season at the league meet, held on Tuesday, May 13, at Derby Golf & Country Club.
TRACK & FIELD
Buhler track & field was one of 11 teams to compete at last Friday’s El Dorado Invitational. The team brought home 31 top-five and 17 top-three finishes.
Ava Koster won the girls’ high jump with a mark of 5-2. Sofia Spies took the top spot in the girls’ long jump with a distance of 17-10.5.
First place in the boys’ high jump went to Garrett Gleason with a mark of 6-0. Max Harmony was first in boys’ pole vault with a top height of 14-2.
Buhler will send athletes to both the Shawnee Mission North Relays and the Salina Invitational on Friday. The league meet on May 16 will be held at Crusader Stadium.
