Volleyball

Buhler High School Volleyball went undefeated last week with two victories at home. In their first game of the week versus Augusta, the Crusaders won two sets to one: 25-16, 20-25, 25-19. In their second game, they swept El Dorado: 25-13, 25-13.

After their good week, they have improved to 4-5 overall and Head Coach Deedra Emel is pleased with her team’s progress, “I’m very pleased with where we’re at this far in the season. We’re really building on a lot of things that we started this summer.” They have a tough slate of games coming up as they face Circle, McPherson, and Andale all twice.

Tennis

In Tennis’s two varsity meets this last week, the Crusaders had two good results. At Circle, the varsity team placed 3rd and was one point out of 2nd place. 2S Ashlyn Cooker and 2D Mady Tanksley and Faith Miller all finished second place. 1S Kayleigh Hamby finished 3rd and 1D Jaiden Gillette and Haeleigh Ruiz finished 4th.

In Varsity 2’s meet at Trinity Catholic, they finished 1st overall. Every single one of their players (1S, 2S, 1D, 2D) won their brackets.

After the sweep and the third-place finish by the other varsity team, Head Coach Matt Babcock was happy, “We had a pretty good day, and everyone performed well today at both of the varsity meets.” After a heat-limited week, Babcock was not sure how his teams would fair, “We’ve only had one “normal” day of practice this season due to the heat, but next week’s forecast looks much better.”

Golf

The Golf team had a test this week at the Andover Central Invitational. Buhler did well as they finished fourth out of fourteen teams. Senior Marlie Cooper finished 6th overall with a score of 70 which is her best score of the season. Brynlee Frank finished T14. They also had a T26, T30, and T48.

Cross Country

Women’s Cross Country finished 6th out of sixteen teams at the Wamego Cross Country Invitational. Their top finisher was Makayla Little with a time of 21:44.68. Little’s time was a personal best for her. The other personal bests came from Corbin Starkweather, Ava Koster & Khloe Blackwell.

The Men’s team finished second place. They had three runners in the top 10: Kaden Lohrentz(7th), Gavin Lindahl(9th), and Layne Whisler(10th). The new personal bests came from Gavin Lindahl, Hunter Metzger & Kai Mendenhall.

Soccer

Buhler men’s soccer finished 5th at the Goddard Invitational. On Tuesday they lost to Goddard 3-1. They recovered with a win over El Dorado 11-2. They finished out the week with a 2-1 win versus Campus. Jaylen Cherry had a good week with a couple of goals, including a game-tying penalty kick against Campus. The game-winning goal was by Reuben Harder in the 46th minute to take the lead 2-1.

“The boys played well all week and learned from their mistakes,” said Head Coach Joshua Tafolla.
