Buhler Softball Has Won 7 of 9, Sweeps Augusta; Baseball Mired in a Slump

AUGUSTA, Kan. – 2011. The last time Buhler softball won 10 or more games in a season. Head Coach Kim Cottam was a junior on that team. The current Crusaders swept Augusta on Monday to earn wins 9 and 10 of this year’s campaign.

A big six-run 2nd inning helped Buhler to run-rule Augusta, 15-3 in game one. Seven of the nine Crusaders to come to bat scored at least one time.

Sydney Quint went 3-5 with two runs scored. Lillian Horne was 2-2 and crossed home plate three times. Alexa Adame added a hit and collected four RBI’s.

Game two was a closer affair, with Buhler only up by two heading into the 7th inning. Three runs in the top of the 7th helped the Crusaders to an 11-8 victory.

Annistyn Cram, Emmie Stallman, and Lillian Horne all collected hits in the inning. For the game, Stallman went 3-3 and scored twice.

A late season slump has Buhler baseball searching for answers. After starting the year 9-3, the Crusaders have since gone 2-6.

Augusta swept Buhler on Monday, coming from behind to win game one, 7-5. Buhler left 11 runners on base.

The O’s Shane McGuire had himself a game, smashing three homeruns over the left field fence and driving in five runs.

Augusta sent 12 batters to the plate in the 4th inning of game two and came away with a 14-2 victory.

Just three Crusaders collected hits, including Nathan Olson who singled as a pinch hitter. In four at-bats this season, Olson has a perfect on-base percentage, earning two hits and two walks.

Buhler will look to rebound on Thursday at Clay Center.
