The Buhler and Hutchinson boys swim teams placed second and third at Hutchinson High School’s second home meet of the season Monday at the Hutchinson YMCA pool.
Andover won the team title with 448 points, followed by Buhler 294, Hutchinson 203, Garden City 189 and Dodge City 93.
In event one, Buhler’s A medley relay team of Eli White, Ryler Hartnett, Wyatt Regehr and senior Hudson DeWeese finished third overall. Buhler’s B team of Ty Campbell, Carson Roberts, Zack Greenlee and Gabe Auxier placed seventh.
Hutchinson placed sixth in the 200-yard medley relay.
In event two, the 200 freestyle, Ethan Maxfield finished fourth, Ty Campbell eighth, Zach Schweizer 11th. Noah Fleischman and Jesiah Goetz swam the longer race for the first time.
Hutchinson’s Kye Reaneau placed fifth in the 200 free.
Buhler senior Ryler Hartnett shaved off a bit of time in his 200 IM, inching closer to a state qualification time. He finished third overall scoring 12 points.
Also in the 200 IM, sophomore Rayden Cunningham finished seventh overall, improving his time by over 23 seconds. Senior Gabe Auxier also competed for BHS, finishing 10th, earning 4 points.
Hutchinson’s Ethan Nichols and Elliott Simpson placed 8-9 in the 200 IM.
Hudson DeWeese finished first out of 24 swimmers in the 50 freestyle. Senior Zack Greenlee was close behind in 5th place and Ty Campbell finished 14th.
Hutchinson’s Felix Hirt placed 11th in the 50 free, Zae Guillen 20th, Daniel Morales 24th and Will Reade 28th.
Hutchinson’s Kye Reaneau placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly.
Buhler’s Wyatt Regehr finished fifth, Zach Greenlee seventh and Carson Roberts eighth, earning 22 points for the Crusaders.
Buhler’s Eli White (5th), Ethan Maxfield (9th) and Gabe Auxier (10th) also earned 22 points combined in the 100 freestyle.
Hutchinson’s Zae Guillen placed 12th in the 100 free and Daniel Morales 20th.
Senior Ryler Hartnett placed third in the 500 free and cut more than 22 seconds off his personal-best time. He posted a time of 5 minutes, 54.21 seconds and is just 1 second away from a state consideration time.
Hartnett earned 12 points, Ryder Regehr finished eighth for 5 points and Sam Biggs finished 10th for 3 points.
Hutchinson’s Gibson Malashchuk and Tate Collins placed fifth and sixth. In the 500 free.
The Buhler 200 freestyle A relay team of Ethan Maxfield, Ty Campbell, Wyatt Regehr and Zack Greenlee finished fifth, earning 22 points.
The Buhler B team of Rayden Cunningham, Sam Biggs, Ryder Regehr and Zack Schweizer finished 11th, earning 14 points.
Hutchinson’s A team placed seventh and the B team placed 12th.
Senior Eli White finished 3rd in the 100 backstroke, earning 12 points. Rayden Cunningham finished seventh, earning 7 points. Zack Schweizer earning 4 points. Sam Biggs and Liam Ledeboer swam exhibition in the backstroke.
Buhler’s Wyatt Regehr (14th), Carson Roberts (16th) and Noah Fleischman (19th) earned 7 points combined.
Hutchinson’s Felix Hirt and Elliott Simpson placed fourth and sixth in the 100 backstroke. Hutchinson’s Will Reade placed 14th.
Hutchinson’s Ethan Nichols and Mayer Collins placed fifth and 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke. Tate Collins placed 15th.
Buhler’s Wyatt Regehr, Carson Roberts, Noah Fleischman and Liam Ledeboer placed 13th, 16th, 19th and 22nd in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In the final event of the night, the 400 free relay, Buhler’s A of Eli White, Ethan Maxfield, Ryler Hartnett and Hudson DeWeese finished 2nd.
Buhler’s 400 free relay B team of Gabe Auxier, Rayden Cunningham, Carson Roberts and Zack Schweizer finished third. Both teams combined earned 50 points in one race for Buhler.
Hutchinson’s 400 free relay A ream placed fourth and the B team placed sixth.
